A Disaster In The Offing: My Nephew Has Joined The Marines (repost)
Today, my 18 year old nephew leaves to join the Marines. I know how I feel about it. I am pissed as hell.
Now, I love my nephew to death, but I believe that his reasons for joining are misguided and to boot, his recruiters have lied their asses off to get him to join. Now, my nephew has no monetary reasons that would make him join. He comes from a well-to-do family and his college education is paid for, but the bad ass, gonna kick some ass, mentality has somehow overtaken him. He actually wants to be in the Infantry, so he can fight for "freedom."
My sister is at the breaking point. I admire her, but feel sorry that she now has to stay awake nights wondering whether her son is going to come home alive. Ironically, the recruiter told my nephew and his parents that he actually had a choice whether or not he wanted to go to Iraq. Now with the military's recruiting goals way off, how in the hell are they going to give him a choice? These lying fucks are kidnapping kids to get them in the military. Arggh!!! You want to support the troops? Then get them the hell out of this misguided, dumb fuck war, that the witless rubes in Washington have got us into. This is not about freedom and democracy, it is about crazed little losers wanting to swing their little dicks around and prove their "manhood." It is their manhood that is threatened, because all of these rubes are failures in one way or another. Their failures are writ large and is destroying our democracy. Vote these stupid fucks out now!!!
In the meantime, keep my nephew in your prayers, whatever God or tree or whatever you pray to.
