Staying What Course?
This week we passed the 2,000 mark in American deaths in Iraq. A War of choice. A war that clearly we could have avoided. A war that eerily mirrors Vietnam. Many war mongers want to avoid the comparison with Vietnam, by saying we were fighting communism, but that is just a bullshit excuse. Did we invade Eastern Europe to stem the "Red Tide"? No. What were we doing there? Well, noone really knows. Now Iraq on the other hand is a no brainer: OIL!!! It is not to spread democracy in the Middle East, or any of the other lame ass excuses, especially not to rid it of the elusive WMD.
There are many ways we could have avoided the "need" to protect that oil:
1) Better gas mileage standards for cars sold in the US, instead we built bigger "little man" SUVs.
2) More investment in clean, environmentally friendly energy solutions, which unlike what the oil companies will tell you, will pay handsomely in the end, and cut our costs dramatically.(Are you ready for this winter of artificially inflated fuel oil prices poor Republicans? Watch for your cheap WalMart prices to go up.)
3) More state and federal dollars for public transportation, which would drastically cut greenhouse emissions and save oil. Pretty easy, huh? It is, really, and would provide many jobs for Americans.
But, why invest all of those high end tax cuts in America, when you can move them offshore, or buy another house, or a $5,000 dollar umbrella stand, or just plain hoard the money. On the other end, we flee from the cities, disinvest from the Public Schools, buy Chinese made goods from Wal Mart (No xenophobia here, just questioning the wisdom of cheap goods from abroad.), waste money on discriminatory Faith Based Initiatives, allow corporate America to poison our drinking water/food/drugs by supporting feckless little men in congress, and vote to enshrine discrimination against fellow citizens who happen to be Gay.
Where is this all taking us? The "Men of Faith" have forgotten Jesus and his message of love for fellow man and replaced it with the vengeance of a wrathful God. They almost never say love, unless you count the mutterings of "I'd love to meet with you for a small donation to my reelection campaign and a job for my child." It is all anger and vengeance. It is all lies.
When will we stop this madness? When will Americans wake up and say "Not in my name."? When will we stop listening to the hate of Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc...? When will we hold these irresponsible folks responsible for the poisoned body politic? When will be quit giving Tom DeLay, Bill Frist, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Pat Robertson, Bob Ney, Roy Blunt, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, and George W. Bush a pass on their CRIMES, because they say that Jesus is their savior?
