What news?

A few weeks back, the New York Times finally admitted to
complicity in not posing tough questions to the Bush
administration on its march to war. I breathed a sigh of relief
and felt I could now again trust "America's Paper of Record."
How naive I was.
On the front page of the NYT, 8.16.2004, is a article trumpeting
the apparent waining of grunge/punk fashion and the return of
preppy fashion among today's students. I immediately flew into
a rage. Why the hell is this not in Living Arts, or the business section?
Now, let's top this all off with a story that was reported by
Bob Herbert in of all places, the Op-Ed page. I love Bob Herbert
and thank god, that this story was reported at all. What was the
story, "State Police Officers have gone into the homes of elderly
black voters in Orlando and interrogated them as part of an odd
"investigation" that has frightened many voters, intimidated
elderly volunteers and thrown a chill over efforts to get out the
black vote in November." (Link to story. You may have to register.

Why the hell is this not on the front page? Why is the media once
again falling down and not reporting the Bush/Republican attempt
to steal the 2004 election? This is not conspiracy theory.
Take a look at the events of the previous election, mainly
the purge of "felons" from the voter rolls, done so ineptly
by Choicepoint, now being conducted by offshore company
Accenture, The Florida State Republican Party notifying their
members that they should vote absentee because the
Touchscreen votingmachines cannot be trusted, leading
newly minted US citizens to register to vote only to find the
party, Republican, already checked for them,
and you start to get the picture. Blacks vote democrat,
while Whites and Hispanics vote Republican. The recent discovery
that the 2004 felon lists are overwhelmingly Black and Democrat,
while Hispanics were largely left off the list, due to the fact that
Hispanic was not used as a race category, while Black was.
Welcome back Jim Crow.
This is a disgrace and highlights that the Bushies and their
crooked allies in today's Republican Party will stop at nothing
to maintain the power that they stole in 2000. Thankfully
we have some folks like Bev Harris (Blackboxvoting.org), Greg Palast
from BBC/UK Guardian fame, who uncovered the unreported (in the US) story
of the 2000 election theft. We now have International election observers
and a army of lawyers who have volunteered to work pro-bono to
insure the legitimacy of 2004's presidential election.
We can undo this damage to our democracy by staying vigilant.
We can save our democracy by overwhelmingly re-defeating
Bush and sending he and his neo-con mafia back to their
holes. If you don't see the damage that has been done to our
country in the past four years, ignore me at your own peril.
If I have opened your eyes, join the millions of Americans
who are preparing to fight, are already fighting to save this
country that we love.
