My God: Paul Weller
Last night I nearly had a orgasm in public. It was a little embarassing,
but I was so damned overwhelmed by the sheer talent that one
musician can carry on for over 25 years. I had the pleasure, and I mean
pleasure, of seeing Paul Weller, former Jam/Style Council. leader, perform at Tower Records here in The Big Apple. He made his one and only stop to promote his new album, Studio 150, a collection of covers
that influenced him as a songwriter/musician. What I did not expect, was
a mini career retrospective, reaching back to The Jam's "That's Entertainment," to The Style Council's, "Headstart For Happiness." Sitting in on this incredible set was Steve Craddock, former Ocean Colour Scene member and current guitarist in Weller's touring band. The acoustic treatment of "Wildwood, Country,"from his sophomore outing "Wildwood, as well as Wishing On A Star, Close To You, and Neil Young's Birds," were transcendent. Really!!!
He's looking great and sounding fucking fantastic. He is promising to return on tour in early 2005 and I am waiting ever so impatiently. I have been a boob on passing up the many tours that have passed through and don't intend to let this upcoming one slip by.
