Artless and Bored

Bob Jones III, son of the founder of Bob Jones University, who until a few years ago, though they may not have changed this, forbid interacial dating at the school. Somehow he explained that this was biblical, but more assuredly it was from his Ku Klux Klan manual. So, Bob raises from his slumber and sends off a letter to George W. Bush that both congratulates him and threatens him, as well as passes along a few more talking points to further divide our fractious electorate. That may be a suprise to a majority of progressive Christians who man the homeless shelters, who are feeding folks on the street, who work for NGO's in war zones w/o electricity to blowdry their beehives, and who voted for Kerry. These folks, know that their God, did not force the earth to worship him. These folks live out their faith. These folks are not race baiting, gay bashing, ignorant buffoons. These people embody what the church is all about. Church is about community, love, sharing, yet folks like Bob Jones can't get over the fact that the South lost the Civil War, the communist threat is no more, and the rest of the country has moved on. These folks are the poison in the body of Christ. These folks are the ones who ruin the church for those who might be seeking spiritual healing in Jesus.
I am not of the ilk who is advocating chasing the elusive come to Jesus moment that many in the Democratic Party are suggesting. But we do have allies in the church. There are folks like Jim Wallis of the Sojourners Community who can be a help in shaping our message to appeal to progressive christians and moderate christians. I am not a religious person, but Jim Wallis has inspired me along with Tony Campolo. These two are the shining example of Christians who are walking the walk. They are fighters for Social Justice, but these fat, lazy, rich big church bigots, call them apostates. They are contemptuos of their work, because they see the evil in their mirror. They are drunk with power. They are drunk with ignorant power and if there is a God, they will be punished. Please support these two, as they are the church's only hope to redeem themselves.
