God Bless The Zutons!!!

A couple of weeks ago I received a e-mail from a friend raving about a band that I had heard nothing about, The Zutons. So, I took some time to track down information about the band, and to download some tracks. I was pretty excited, but nothing prepared me seeing them last night. My wife works for the Museum of Modern Art here in NYC. As most of you more literate folks out there know, MOMA is moving into their brand new digs in Midtown Manhattan. Last night was the final preview opening party, for the gliteratti and their hangers on. Ok, more to the point, we arrive and head straight for the 6th floor in order to make the descent through the galleries a bit more bearable. We enter the elevator and I see a poster saying that The Zutons would be playing at 10 PM. Woo-Hoo!!! Still I was not sure what I was in for.
After roaming the galleries, chatting with friends, eating finger food, and generally getting loaded on free booze, we realize that we must head up to see the band. We walk through the entrance to the gallery and are blown back with a wall of blissful noise. It's a sort of squealing blues, driven by a solid, boogie back beat, causing you to scream and shake in spastic approval. Sax player, Abi Harding, was dancing around the stage with the abandon of a trance induced voodoo ceremony. Singer/Guitarist, Brian McCabe sang/screamed/shouted about whatever and it was sheer bliss. I had to capture this and I did. I wish that I had experienced the whole set, but we were roaming and gabbing around the museum and forgot about the starting time.
Next time, The Zutons won't be so luckily, as I might just let it all hang out. Zombified to the beat. As soon as I purchase their album, "Who Killed The Zutons?", I will be back with a review of what this music is all about. Beat me to the punch and buy it now. They are close to my new favorite band. Who knows?
