Attacks on Christmas: Another Manufactured Crisis by The Right.
Bill O'Reilly wants you to believe that he is looking out for Christmas. What is up with the Right Wingers? They hold the power in both houses of Congress and the White House. There is no check on their power with the "mainstream" press rolling over and giving the Bush Administration a pass on just about every little thing that comes out of their mouth. So, you would think that they would be happy. Well, not so. The success of the right has been to keep up the fiction that they are under attack and your "American" Values are the target. They are only successful if they are able to keep up the fiction that they are an embattled minority. Now that they are fully in power, it is one manufactured crisis after another. What is important for them is to make sure that Americans do not closely scrutinize their policies, ie. Social Security, The Iraqi War, Terrorism, economic policies, the environment, etc...
So, we have the latest crusade, Christmas. It is the liberals who have created this crisis, blah, blah, blah. What they don't tell you is that it is a lie. They are blaming the ACLU, who have taken up the cases of a school child who wanted to hand out Candy Canes with religious messages and they won it. So why does the right constantly battle against a group that upholds their rights to proselitize? Because they don't want them to represent anyone but themselves. Throw out the baby with the bath water. They would that noone has rights, rather than everyone has rights.
O'Reilly will keep lying as long as he can get away with it and Fox has done a good job, along with all of the other hatemongers on talk radio in convincing lazy, angry, white Americans that they are the only real news voice. Through bait and switch tactics, that only slightly touch on the truth, they have trumped NBC, CBS, and ABC. Most disturbing is the new race to Outfox, FOX. It is this failure of the media, that is a greater danger to democracy than anything that we have ever seen. Bill Moyers, on his farewell broadcast of NOW, warns of this problem. We need to hold the media responsible for their failure to uphold the public mandate that they have been given.
We need to bombard the FCC with complaints and challenge the local licenses of groups like Sinclair and Clear Channel. For a healthy democracy, we need to break the media monopolies, or we will, like Nazi Germany, live under tyranny. Capitalism is at its worst reaches. It is corrupting the very democracy that we all have fought so hard for. Be a patriot and challenge the media monopolies. Don't believe the lie that the Bush Administration and by proxy the Far Right agenda, have won a mandate. It is far from a mandate and what they won, was by deception and lies.
