Goodbye Bernie: Former NYPD Commissioner Steps Down from Nomination For Homeland Security Chief.

Bernard Kerik, NYPD's former commissioner under Mayor Guliani, has decided to step down from the nomination as the Chief of Homeland Security. The reason: Undocumented Nanny. Bullshit!!! Did I say that? Bullshit!!! The man is a walking embodiment of conflict of interest. Not only is he a walking conflict of interest, but he is fully unqualified for the post. The former NYPD Chief of Police was chosen after serving as Rudy's bodyguard and driver, having been selected over dozens of more qualified candidates. More problems have surfaced since the announcement of his nomination, such as alleged mob ties, alleged problems during his tenure as head of corrections, problems in a stint as a security jerk at a Saudi Arabian hospital, a short stint as Iraqi Interior minister (During which it is alleged that he saw this as a little vacation while his house in NJ was being renovated and while he got his rocks off by going on search and destroy missions with Special Forces.), and his profiting from businesses who are currently doing business with Homeland Security. What is amazing is the response from the White House that these problems were minor compared to the undocumented Nanny and would not have impeded his nomination. The clowns are in control.

Dec. 11, 2004  |  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bernard Kerik apologized to President Bush on Saturday after questions about the immigration status of a housekeeper-nanny he employed led the former New York City police commissioner to withdraw his nomination as homeland security chief.

"I owe the president an enormous amount of gratitude for this consideration. I owe him a great apology that this may have caused him and his administration a big distraction," Kerik said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press from his home in Franklin Lakes, N.J.

"I'm going to spend some time with my family. I'm going to work on getting messages out to people close to me who have been supportive, apologizing for the embarrassment," Kerik said.

The surprise withdrawal late Friday sends Bush back in search of a Cabinet official to help guard the country against terrorists.
