Not Cat Blogging, but the poor little guy.
Whew, did this weekend suck. Upon visiting our local veterinarian, we are informed that our cat, Tucker, has pneumonia. Shit!!! Prior to going to the Vet, my wife had just relayed a story to me that one of her fellow employees cat had died of pneumonia. So, you can bet I was bumming out.
So, we took Tucker to The Animal Medical Center on 62nd St. in Midtown. When we got the diagnosis from the doctor, it was bad. They did not know what exactly was causing the pneumonia, or whatever they were thinking it was at that point. His breathing was labored and was more than congested, he was puking snot. Poor little guy. He was freaking out, because he did not know what the hell was going on. The doctors were scared for him. So, we went home and waited.
The doctors called later that night and said they were able to sedate him and then put a tube in to try and aspirate some of the phlegm. It began to work. They then filled him with Anti-biotics and awaited the results of the myriad tests they ran on him. So, needless to say, sleep was shitty.

Saturday, we cancelled our trip out of town to wait by the phone. The doctor called and the good news started to trickle in. We went to visit and it was sad to see Tucker in a ICU oxygen tent. He was not pleased, but had no energy to voice his outrage. Things were still a little iffy at this point, as he was not eating, which is the lifeline to recovery. So, back home, but more hopeful this time.
Sunday, I made the trek to the hospital solo. By the time I got there, Tucker was on his way to better cat health. He had responded superbly to the medicine and was able to visit outside of the oxygen tent. He was looking pretty gnarly, but starting to get a little spring in him. He was not interested in the Tuna I brought him, but little did we know he had been nibbling away on food in his cage. Ok, my cat is a fighter.
Monday, more good news. Tucker is out of ICU and is eating. Woo-Hoo!!! I want to say, if you need a vet, take your pet to St. Mark's Veterinary Hospital and in a real emergency, take them to The Animal Medical Center on 62nd St. and York. The doctors there are great. Really. They really take the time to keep you abreast of developments with your pet and even informed our Vet of our cat's progress. I want to say Woo-Hoo!!! Isn't he the cutest cat you have ever seen?
