Microsoft Hands The Christian Right More Power.

What was Microsoft thinking when they withdrew their support for Washington's Anti-Discrimination Bill that would give gays protection statewide? Now threatened by a toothless boycott, as the Window's install base is hovering in the low to mid 90% area, they cave in to some wing nut in Washington state who feels he has the nation's ear. They have been longtime supporters of Gay rights and had lent significant support over the years to help with the bills eventual passage. Well, now we are in the age of rampant fealty to the Christian Right, who we have discovered are not really that big a group, but a very vocal and mendacious group, their leaders that is. If Microsoft were not so concerned with becoming the only operating system on the planet, this would not have happened.
Since nearly 95% of homes are using Windows, what boycott could have effected them in any way? What are the Christian Right going to do, run out and buy Macs? Are they going to wipe Windows off of their computers and start running Linux? I think not. This is not a very intelligent group of folks and this boycott would die in the womb. The only reason I can think is that they are still running up against a lot of regulation and have lawsuits hanging over their heads worldwide brought by developers who they have stolen from or just decided to crush in their rush to dominate the world of computing and doing a shitty job at that. Well, gay and lesbian readers out there, if you have ever had a reason to switch, now's the time to do it. Just about anything that you need to do on a PC, you can do it and even better on the Mac.
The Stranger, one of Seattle's Alternative Weeklies, has the story here. Salon is covering the story as well here and the New York Times here.
