Good God, The Dead 60s Rule The World!!!
Just got back from rocking The Dead 60s at The Mercury Lounge in NYC. Woo-Hoo, the hype is real and fucking raw. Taking the Dub, punk, rock, a dash of funk, mix it up, spit it out, throw it at the wall, and you've got one of the best new bands around. It was an early show for such advance hype and opening of all things. The band hit the stage to the wail of sirens. Kicking into Just Another Love Song, from their soon to be released self titled CD, I felt like I had been hit in the back of the head and told to wake up. The set was tight and strictly business. Alternating between dubbed out rhythms to punky angular guitar attacks and dropping in the very Jackie Mittoo/Jerry Dammers-esque keyboards, the boys laid out an amazing preview of their upcoming CD. The set list is as follows: Just Another Love Song, A Different Age, Red Light, Loaded Gun, Nowhere, We Get Low, Riot Radio, Instrumental, The Last Resort, and You're Not The Law. This band should be number one. Though, I am sure to be disappointed, when Epic screws the whole thing up in a year or two. They are just finishing up a US tour with Garbage, and will head back for some European dates to support their CD release, then back over to the states for The Warped Tour. I may even go to the Warped Tour this year, because there are actually some bands that I want to see play. Anyway, see them before you can't ever see them. This English assault has to end somewhere, not that I want it too, but great music seems to have a short shelf life here. The Dead 60s self titled debut CD will appear in the States on May 31st.
